Tips to get you started
Try, try again
If you don't like the output, run the same content through CatalogerGPT again. CatalogerGPT is Stochastic, selecting its output based on probability distribution, so it won't produce identical output for each input. It's fairly consistent in producing a usable MARC record, but keep this option in mind.
Have a conversation
If you kind of like the output but it needs some revision or CatalogerGPT forgot to add certain MARC tags, just tell it what you want it to do and it should do its best. CatalogerGPT is interactive, not a one shot and done, when you need it to be.
Try it on your phone
Running CatalogerGPT within OpenAI's ChatGPT app is an effective way to capture page images using your phone's camera. Just ASK CatalogerGPT to create a MARC record for you then tap the camera button and add as many page images as you need.

CatalogerGPT 1.0 for Windows Developed in 2023 to demonstrate AI assisted cataloguing. It allows more control over the workflow and output than CatalogerGPT online.
CatalogerGPT 1.0 for Windows can catalogue and create a MARC record in MarcEdit format based on the text content or images of key book pages (covers, title page, verso, and table of contents) that you supply. It applies its knowledge of cataloging and classification rules, utilizing detailed custom instructions and supplementary knowledge to create a MARC record.

AI Cataloguing with CatalogerGPT 2 coming soon
CatalogerGPT 2.0 for Windows is currently in development. It will access more powerful models, provide workflow flexibility, access more knowledge, query other systems, possess the ability to learn and improve, and perform assigned tasks on batches of work using agentic techniques. I'll be applying everything learned from previous versions and new AI capabilities. Stay tuned.

My AI Story So Far
Hello and welcome. My name is Glen Greenly. I've worked in Libraries for over 30 years in Technical Services and Systems Analysis in British Columbia, Canada. I've immersed myself in the recent rapid rise of generative AI with fascination at the potential and implications of emergent technologies. As an early adopter and long-time coder, I wanted to build something useful and start applying the power of generative AI in libraries.
Led by the belief that AI will be integral to the future of libraries
I hope you will find that CatalogerGPT becomes a useful tool in your cataloger's toolkit for original cataloging, MARC validation, classification, and subject headings. I believe that AI will make original cataloging faster and more efficient. That's why I created this AI-powered software; to help libraries create initial original catalog records quickly and easily and to be able to apply the power of generative AI to their work.
Reviews
“Oh my God, it actually sort of works!”
Glen Greenly, Library Systems Analyst
“While CatalogerGPT prides itself on assisting with original MARC record creation, one can't help but wonder if it's merely the product of an overzealous Systems Analyst with a solution looking for a problem. Does the library realm truly need an AI to do a task that, let's be honest, many seasoned librarians can perform with their eyes closed?”

“CatalogerGPT is an innovative and specialized tool designed to streamline original MARC record creation process for librarians and catalogers. It adeptly converts text or images from key book pages into comprehensive MARC records, aligning with the latest cataloging standards and formats. By also suggesting Library of Congress subject headings and classification numbers, it significantly reduces the complexity and time involved in cataloging, making it an indispensable asset in modern library management.”
